Description
Built for modern engineers with limited space, API Audio The Box 8 is a 24-channel pro mixing console and summing mixer, sporting eight mic pres, 16 summing inputs, and eight 500-series rack slots for processing modules. With an exceptional diversity of connectivity, routing options, and API's signature analog hardware sound, The Box 8 is a highly efficient mixing console. Each mic input channel features selectable mic/line input, phantom power, a -20 dB pad, polarity inversion, a 50 Hz high-pass filter, and a plethora of routing options, including mono and stereo aux sends, direct output, inserts, and more. The first four channels also feature selectable Hi-Z input via front-panel 1/4" inputs and compression routing from the two stereo-linkable 527 compressor units built into the master bus. The summing mixer section on the right side is designed to facilitate mixing operations with DAWs and can be used primarily as a insert/send/return section or purely as extra line inputs. An extensive amount of control is available on The Box 8, almost too much to list, but options include solo controls with selectable PFL, AFL, Solo-in-Place, and Solo Safe modes, an integrated talkback section, comprehensive monitor controls (with support for up to two separate stereo monitor systems), meter routing, and a wide array of channel routing options. All faders sport a 100mm resistive design, with color coding to distinguish sections, and all channels sport both solo and mute functions. Extensive I/O is provided, including balanced XLR, 1/4" TRS, and DB25 connections as well as unbalanced 1/4" and two separate headphone outputs. The integrated power supply provides universal compatibility and a guarantee of low-noise, low-distortion operation.Pro-Level Performance for Smaller Spaces and Budgets The Box is API's small-format solution for any studio where space or budget is limited. Using the same circuitry and components as all other API consoles (including the Vision and Legacy AXS), The Box provides the signature analog sound and performance users have come to expect from API.Designed and optimized for the digital era, The Box handles all the functions needed for production not provided by most DAWs, including mic preamps, input signal processing, high-quality mix bus, cue sends with talkback, monitor control, and more. Most importantly, The Box offers the legendary API sound in an efficient, cost-effective package.Compatible with 500-Series Modules Improving upon the previous iteration of The Box, The Box 8 sports eight slots for installing 500-series / VPR-approved processing modules into the console, enhancing FX processing capability. These slots are supported by eight balanced 1/4" TRS input and output connections in the rear of the console. These connections allow you to use your installed modules as FX sends and returns. Combined with the summing mixer section, this makes the The Box 8 an extremely versatile and customizable mixing and recording console.Main Input Channels The eight primary input channels feature both XLR and 1/4" balanced inputs and the following controls and features:Selectable mic/line inputs (instrument input also selectable on channels 1 to 4)Selectable 48V phantom powerPolarity inverter-20 dB padGain control (up to +65 dB of gain)Routing controls (compressor, meter, and direct output routing)50 Hz, 12 dB per-octave-slope high-pass filterAux/cue sends with on/off switches and pre/post-fader routingStereo pan-pot controlOutput assignment (stereo program bus)Solo Safe switchBuilt-In 527 Compressors The Box 8 is equipped with two complete API 527 compressor/limiters in the master section of the console. These compressors are assigned to the program bus by default for mixing, but can be routed to the input channels 1 to 4 while recording or mixing. They can also be linked via the Link button for stereo processing.Input Channel Aux/Cue Sends The Box 8 is equipped with two mono auxiliary buses (1/2), one stereo auxiliary b
